[Via Satellite 03-21-2014] Qatar-based Es’hailSat has issued a request for proposal (RFP) to design and manufacture its second satellite, the Es’hailSat 2, to be located at the 26 degrees east orbital slot. The satellite, with both Ku- and Ka-band capabilities, will provide government services and TV broadcasting services that will help the company offer DTH content throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

Es’hailSat 2 will also deliver the first Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT) geostationary communication capability, linking Brazil and India in real-time. Proposals are due by April 30, 2014, with the satellite expected to launch by the end of 2016.

“With the success of our first satellite Es’hail 1 we are delighted to move forward with our satellite procurement program. Es’hail 2 demonstrates both our commitment to providing premium satellite capacity for broadcasters in the MENA region and to building a sustainable satellite industry for the State of Qatar,” said Ali Al Kuwari, CEO of Es’hailSat.
