The government of Canada is going all-in on Telesat for the Enhanced Satellite Communications Project – Polar (ESCP-P) program. This week, Telesat announced a $1.9 billion contract with Canada’s Defence Investment Agency to provide military Ka-band Arctic connectivity through its Lightspeed constellation.
The contract funds Telesat to expand the Lightspeed constellation by 69 satellites, which it has contracted from MDA Space. CEO Dan Goldberg told investors this week he sees LEO Mil-Ka capacity to support allied defense requirements beyond Canada across air, land, and sea, and unmanned platforms.
Also in this edition, True Anomaly shared the details of a “space pursuit” — calling it the first space-to-space pursuit of an evading target. The demonstration with an evading spacecraft built by Rocket Lab was part of the Victus Haze tactically responsive mission for the U.S. Space Force.
