Germany’s space startup sector is growing despite government spending cuts, with DLR’s Small Satellite Initiative and continued private investment driving commercialization.
Exolaunch (Berlin) has managed more than 80% of Germany’s smallsat launches over the past decade, deploying 360+ satellites. It recently won an 18 million euro DLR contract, has a record 30+ global customers, and has close to 60 satellites aboard a mid-2024 rideshare launch. CCO Jeanne Allarie: “We continue to explore strategic partnerships and initiatives to expand our reach and contribute to space activities around the world.”
UNIO (Munich) is building an all-in-one NTN 5G connectivity solution for mobility markets — transportation, logistics, and agriculture — backed by Isar Aerospace, Reflex Aerospace, Mynaric, OHB SE, and SES. It is launching UNIO Move, a turnkey NTN 5G-over-RF solution, at SATELLITE 2024, targeting first revenues in H2 2024 after closing seed financing. CEO Katrin Bacic: “We aim at securing anchor clients in the second half of 2024, signifying the commercial viability and market acceptance of UNIO’s offerings.”
Isar Aerospace (Munich, founded 2018) — the most capitalized independent New Space company in the EU with $330 million raised — is vertically integrated and targeting the first test flight of the Spectrum rocket from Andøya Spaceport in Norway. CEO Daniel Metzler: “Our ambition is to become a global leader in launch services for satellites and satellite constellations. Isar Aerospace will redefine the understanding of and ambition for space in Europe.” VS
