Iridium Releases 9602 Transceiver

Iridium Communications is rolling out its Iridium 9602 satellite data transceiver to market and is accepting orders.

The lightweight short burst data transceiver embeds into partner-developed products and systems that enable remote machine-to-machine asset tracking and monitoring. The Iridium 9602 aims to provide reliable, real-time critical communications services similar to what will be offered through its next-generation satellite constellation, Iridium Next. Iridium has been developing the two-way device for two years.

Northrop Grumman Tests Airborne Ka-Band WGS Satellite Terminal

Northrop Grumman has completed flight-testing of an airborne satellite communications system installed on a modified business jet aircraft to connect with a Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) via the Ka-band link.

The test is the second of three phases required to certify the airborne communications system for WGS operations. Northrop Grumman is performing the certification under its 30-month, $69 million Multi-Role Tactical Common Data Link (MR-TCDL) Developmental and Operational Test program contract with U.S. Strategic Command.

Tachyon Completes In-Flight Tests for COTM Terminal

Tachyon Networks has completed in-flight testing of its ATR-9300 airborne terminal for the mobile communicaitons-on-the-move (COTM) market and ISR applications.

Tachyon has developed an ultra small aperture terminal (USAT) based aeronautical terminal achieving mobile data transmission rates of 10 megabits per second (Mbps) by 2.8Mbps, operating in Ku-band beams in order to meet bandwidth data, voice and video needs.

Based on the iDirect iConnex e850mpTM, the Tachyon ATR solution uses common ground infrastructure, or hubs, that can be simultaneously applied to land, sea and air missions for an integrated approach to advanced C4ISR missions.
