[Satellite Today 06-17-09] ST-2 Satellite Ventures Pte Ltd. (STS) awarded a contract to Arianespace to launch the ST-2 satellite, Arianespace announced July 16.
ST-2 is being manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric Corp. using the DS2000 platform and will carry C- and Ku-band transponders to provide fixed and mobile satellite services as well as voice and data IP-based services.
    The satellite will be launched by an Ariane 5 ECA during the 2011 second quarter to replace ST-1, which was placed in orbit by Arianespace in 1998.
    STS is a joint venture of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel) and Chunghwa Telecom Company Ltd.
