AvL Technologies designs and manufactures motorized, mobile satellite antennas that exclusively combine the patented Roto-Lok® cable drive, world-class AvL carbon-fiber reflectors and the unique one-button auto-acquisition controller to automatically locate and lock-on the satellite signal within minutes. With decades of satellite antenna experience (both on satellites and on earth stations) behind our engineering, AvL is a premier antenna-only manufacturer in the satellite industry, leading the way in producing mobile earth stations that are functional, reliable and technically excellent.

Pointing Accuracy, Stability And Speed Of Movement

The most important of specifications for a satellite antenna, particularly an auto-acquisition antenna, is the pointing accuracy and the stability and stiffness of the positioner under the most extreme environmental conditions. AvL’s patented Roto-Lok® cable drive technology provides the ultimate in precision and stiffness compared to geared drive systems and, unlike most other systems, is free of backlash. It is a maintenance-free dry mechanism able to operate in a very wide range of difficult and hazardous conditions without degradation. Originally invented as a way to rotate very large telescopes accurately and smoothly, the Roto-Lok® is an elegantly simple system that utilizes the averaging effect of many cables wrapped around a drive capstan and output shaft.

High Performance Carbon Fiber Antennas

In response to requests by discriminating customers with very specialized application needs, AvL added segmented and solid precision carbon-fiber reflectors to certain products starting in 2003.These light-weight (yet rugged enough to drive a car over) carbon fiber reflectors maximize the superior performance of the Roto-Lok® positioner as well as make possible the unique packaging options for the flyaway line.
AvL has created a segmented 90X66-centimeter unit for the unique carry-on iSNG; 1-meter segmented for use in case-based flyaways and tripod versions; 1.2-, 1.6-, 2- and 2.4-meter solid for vehicle-mounted applications; and 1.2-, 1.6-, 2- and 2.4-meter  segmented for flyaway, SNG and case-based broadband. All reflectors are of accuracy to allow future use at Ka-band, produce “textbook” patterns with margin to 29-25 log Θ curve required by FCC, Intelsat and other international carriers, and are laser tracked at AvL’s test area prior to shipment to re-verify surface rms.
