Pan-European broadcaster SBS Broadcasting is launching three new digital channels in the Dutch digital television market. The first channel is called “Klussen en Wonen” (Do-It-Yourself) and is dedicated to home improvements. The second channel, “I Love” is a channel, which will broadcast hit series from the 1970s and 1980s. The third channel, “Veronica Vibes” aims to provide information about nightlife and leisure activities and is aimed at younger people.

One of the key challenges will be to gain widespread distribution for the three channels. SBS will negotiate with cable operators as well as the direct-to-home satellite television service operator Canal Digital in the Netherlands in order to try and gain widespread distribution for the channels.

Earlier in the week, SBS announced that it completed the acquisition of the C More Group for 269.6 million euros ($360.8 million) in cash. C More Group is a key Nordic pay entertainment provider with more than 770,000 subscribers in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. It provides both premium sports and premium movies in the Nordic region under the Canal+ and C More brands. The channels are distributed primarily by satellite, cable, and broadband as well as by digital terrestrial transmission (DTT).
