Alcatel said it has signed a $150 million contract with Brazilian satellite operator Star One for the construction of the telecommunications satellite Star One C2. It will be the second satellite Alcatel built for Star One.

The satellite is based on Alcatel’s Spacebus 3000B3 platform and is expected for delivery in 24 months. The satellite ultimately will be located at 65 degrees West and will be fitted with 28 C-band transponders, 16 Ku-band transponders and one X-band transponder. The satellite will replace the Star One B2 satellite in the C-band for direct TV broadcasting over South America and will provide new optimized capacity in the Ku-band for telephony and trunking transmissions over Brazil and Mexico.
