G2 Satellite Solutions, MCI Ink Two-Year Deal
G2 Satellite Solutions, an independent wholly owned subsidiary of Panamsat Corp., said that MCI has renewed a multi-million dollar, two-year deal for satellite services. Under the terms of the deal, G2 will provide two Ku-band transponders on Galaxy 11, with redundancy provisions on SBS-6.
G2 said MCI is using the satellite solutions on the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Telecommunications Satellite (FAASAT) system, which provides the voice and data communications for air traffic flow. MCI is the prime contractor on the FAASAT system. In addition to the two transponders, the deal also covers 21 regional terminals, with each communicating to multiple remote sites. The specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
