[Satellite TODAY 03-22-12] Satellite operator Eutelsat Communications has launched its NewsSpotter newsgathering service, which is provided by the company’s Skylogic affiliate and hosted on Eutelsat’s Ka-Sat satellite, the companies announced March 21.

The compact NewsSpotter’s lightweight equipment provides the ability to transmit HS and/or SD live video from broadcasters the field. The service was designed for fast transmission of film rushes and mobile proxy file transfers, offering native IP connectivity.
NewsSpotter uses professional-grade Ka-Sat terminals developed by multiple manufacturers in three versions: Fly-Away; Vehicular Compact and Vehicular Rugged.
Eutelsat Customer Care Director Cristiano Benzi said that bandwidth for the service could be reserved online by using a self-booking application to pre-book for planned use and guaranteed reservations.
“Satellites are an unbeatable platform for covering breaking news and transmitting live sports and cultural events back to studios. NewsSpotter complements these daily operations with a fast, light and cost-effective service for broadcasters and news crews,” Benzi said in a statement.
