NewSat to Market Measat-3b Capacity Under Jabiru-2 Brand Name

[Satellite TODAY 02-23-12] Measat has secured a long-term lease agreement from Australian telecommunications carrier NewSat for capacity on the Measat-3b satellite, the operator announced Feb. 22.

   NewSat said it would secure multiple Ku-band transponders on Measat-3b satellite and market the capacity under the Jabiru-2 satellite brand.
   Measat-3b is a high-powered geostationary satellite providing at least 48 high-powered Ku-band transponders with service to Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Australia. The satellite will operator in tandem with the Measat-3 and Measat-3a satellites at the 91.5 degrees East orbital slot.
   The satellite is being manufactured by Astrium and will be launched by Arianespace at the end of 2013.
