[Satellite TODAY 09-09-11] Maritime satellite communications provider Marlink has signed an agreement with Wilson Ship Management to provide 80 of its ships with SCAP Inmarsat FleetBroadband on a 36-month contract, the companies announced Sept. 8.
Wilson, one of the largest shipping operators in the European short sea segment, will receive a full Marlink service package, including both hardware from Thrane and Thrane and airtime, which will be specifically tailored to its requirements. Marlink also will provide value-added services such as Traffic Manager and a custom-designed Data Manager solution to support a fleet-wide management system.
“This is an important contract for Marlink, as Wilson Ship Management is a major operator in this sector with more than 110 ships in its fleet,” Marlink CEO Tore Morten Olsen said in a statement. “Being able to offer, install and service the complete package has meant that we can deliver and have their communication systems in full operation in the shortest time possible. This extremely important factor was taken into consideration when the management team at Wilson made their decision. While this order is for 36 months we are confident in our service and will ensure that this is a long-term relationship in the future.”
