[Satellite TODAY 08-08-11]FSS satellite operator Intelsat has received multiple contracts from oil and gas managed communications provider RigNet to acquire new satellite capacity and renew its existing leases, Intelsat announced Aug. 5.

RigNet will take up new capacity on Intelsat 901 located at the 342 degrees East orbital slot and on Intelsat 902, which services the Middle East at the 62 degrees East location. RigNet renewed its existing capacity agreement on Intelsat 707 to support its customer offerings in the Gulf of Mexico.
The multi-year contracts also grant RigNet access to Intelsat’s IntelsatONE ground network and connect RigNet’s oil and gas remote users to its head offices using Intelsat’s teleport and terrestrial facilities.
“As bandwidth needs grow to support higher end-user activity and the increased push of applications, oil and gas companies increasingly choose RigNet for our global reach, technical sophistication and network reliability. Intelsat’s flexible and resilient global network provides us the ability to deliver the most advanced communications services available, meeting our customers’ needs across the world,” RigNet CEO Mark Slaughter said in a statement.
