[Satellite TODAY 06-30-11] International MSS operator Thuraya signed a partnership agreement with Indonesian radio and satellite communications retailer PTSOG to form cooperative initiatives for the Asian market, the companies announced June 29.

PTSOG will promote and provide Thuraya’s Public Calling Office (PCO) voice, fax, data and SMS services throughout Indonesia. The project also entails the rollout of a large number of PCO units across remote and small island communities in Indonesia.
In a statement, Thuraya CEO Samer Halawi said the project aims to connect remote and rural community islands in the country through Thuraya’s modern satellite telecom network at lower costs.
“Thuraya is pleased to collaborate with its partner PTSOG in such a telecom project that will benefit many people and families located in remote rural areas throughout Indonesia’s 17,508 islands,” said Halawi. “The PCO solution will, for example, make it easy for people on those islands to make social calls to their family relatives who are at sea in large numbers due to Indonesia’s geography and extensive sea-related activities,” he explained.
