SES World Skies Signs Health Services Capacity Deal in Haiti

By Mark Holmes | November 12, 2010

[Satellite TODAY 11-12-10] SES World Skies signed an AMC-6 capacity deal with Partners In Health (PIH) to expand and enhance mission-critical connectivity across Haiti, the operator announced Nov. 11.
PIH increased its investment in medical teams and dedicated satellite capacity in the wake of the earthquake that struck Haiti in January. PIH previously used the SES World Skies’ NSS-806 satellite for broadband and videoconferencing capabilities as part of a capacity deal that was renewed in January.
This latest agreement expands the relationship and delivers bandwidth PIH medical teams will use to provide patient care at 12 more hospitals and clinics in Port-au-Prince, St. Marc, Hinche and other Haitian towns and villages.
“Thanks to increased donations from around the world, PIH has added medical teams and upgraded to dedicated satellite bandwidth to provide the best patient care possible in Haiti. SES World Skies satellites are playing an unprecedented role in our Haitian healthcare operations. The connectivity allows our doctors, nurses and researchers to communicate effectively with colleagues stationed at our Boston headquarters and care sites across Haiti and the world,” PIH Spokesman Andrew Marx said in a statement.
