ICG to Install Iridium Services on Embraer Commercial Aircraft

By Jeffrey Hill | October 22, 2010

[Satellite TODAY 10-22-10] International Communications Group (ICG), an aeronautical communications systems and solutions provider, was contracted by business jet and commercial aircraft manufacturer Embraer to equip its mid-light Legacy 450, mid-size Legacy 500 and ultra-large cabin Lineage 1000 aircraft with datalink-capable Iridium communications systems, ICG announced Oct. 21.
ICG also will act as primary satellite communications provider to Embraer Executive Jet owners on various business jet models. The services include: dual full-service Iridium channels, providing both flight deck and cabin voice services, a dedicated short-burst data modem in a single LRU, and the option for jet owners to choose between the ICG NxtLink series, ICS-220A dual channel system or the ICS-400 quad channel device.
In a statement, ICG Vice President of OEM Sales Jeff Saucedo said the ICS-220A system was designed to account for emerging regulatory changes and mandates for required flight deck communications to achieve FANS route compliance. “The ICG NxtLink series enhances safety by providing reliable communications and are the most economical satellite based long range communications systems available today.”
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
