[Satellite TODAY 09-13-10] Telefonica International Wholesale Services (TIWS), an international wholesale subsidiary of the Telefonica Group, has contracted Gilat to supply its SkyEdge 2 satellite network to support operations, Gilat announced Sept. 10.
TIWS, which provides communications services for fixed and mobile carriers, ISPs and content providers, said it selected Gilat’s SkyEdge 2 VSAT platform based on its feature set and spectral efficiency.
Telefonica will use the new network to enhance its service offering to customers with remote offices that require direct connectivity to the Internet, or to their own corporate networks.
“With SkyEdge 2 network, TIWS will be able to deliver satellite broadband services including corporate VPN and Internet connectivity throughout Brazil,” Telefonica said in a statement.
Separately, Gilat announced it has been selected by Kenya Commercial Bank to provide the SkyEdge 2 broadband satellite network for its operations.
Financial details of both contracts were not disclosed.
