Iridium Names OpenPort Maritime Reseller in Japan

[Satellite TODAY 04-23-10] Iridium Communications named KDDI Corp. an authorized service provider for the Iridium OpenPort high-bandwidth maritime satellite communication service in Japan, Iridium announced April 22.
   KDDI has secured Iridium’s Japanese product type approvals and will distribute OpenPort units and service into the Japanese merchant shipping and commercial fishing fleets.
   “Iridium OpenPort is an ideal solution for shipping companies and fishing fleets. In addition, Iridium’s global coverage means that ships will be in constant touch wherever they sail, even including high Polar Regions,” KDDI General Manager Yuzuru Takayama said in a statement.
