Sea Launch to Orbit Intelsat 17

[Satellite Today 01-20-09] Sea Launch will launch the Intelsat 17 communications satellite for Intelsat late 2010, Sea Launch announced Jan. 19.
    The launch is the first of five missions in a multiple launch services contract Intelsat signed in November to use the Sea Launch system between 2010 and 2012.
    Built by Space Systems/Loral, the 1300-series Intelsat 17 communications satellite will replace Intelsat 704 at 66 degrees East as part of Intelsat’s fleet investment program.
    Designed for 15 years of service, IS-17 will carry 28 C-band and 46 Ku-band transpondersto serve Intelsat customers in Europe, Northern Africa and India as well the Middle East.
