[Satellite Today 12-10-08] Marlec Pty, an Australian satellite specialist company, signed a three-year wholesale agreement to sell the Optus Thuraya satellite range of handsets throughout Australia, Optus Thuraya announced Dec. 10.
The product line will include the SG2520 handset, billed as a pocket-sized smart satellite phone.
Marlec expects the service to appeal to the existing satellite market and also the broader market because of the size of the phones and low cost. The company also said that customers eligible for Australia’s government satellite subsidy can acquire the new handset for a reduced price depending on eligibility.
