WildBlue Completes Network Upgrades

[Satellite Today 07-09-08] WildBlue Communications has completed hardware and software system upgrades designed to increase its total network capacity by more than 150,000 additional customers, the operator announced July 9.
    WildBlue claims its total network capacity will service over 640,000 customers nationwide. "Our total system capacity to date is now 31 percent above where we started the year," WildBlue CEO David Leonard said in a statement. Additional upgrades are planned that will improve the capacity of some of the compay’s spot beams by as much as 65 percent.
    The company estimates that there are more than 11 million households in areas throughout the United States where DSL or cable broadband services are not available and more than 7.5 million of these households are still accessing the Internet through a traditional dial-up connection.
