Globecomm Wins New Telco Business

[Satellite Today – 6-17-08] Globecomm Systems has been boosted by the news of a $1.2 million satellite-based infrastructure deal with a telecoms operator, the company said June 16. While Globecomm did not name the operator involved, the company said it will be designing, integrating and installing satellite infrastructure in the country of Panama consisting of a major hub and six remote sites.
    Once complete, the infrastructure will expand the customer’s network footprint enabling the transmission of IP-based data and voice traffic via remote GSM cellular backhaul for the telecom operator.
    David Hershberg, Globecomm’s CEO, commented, “Globecomm’s mobile communication infrastructure deployments continue to expand as demonstrated by this contract. The company will continue to invest in mobile communication technology for the foreseeable future as we extend our business model.”
