[11-29-07 – Satellite Today] Australian direct-to-home operator Foxtel unveiled an initiative that enables customer base control their viewing experience from their cell phone, the company announced Nov. 29.
Foxtel’s customers with compatible 3G phones are now able to access a Web-based electronic program guide as well as use a facility called Remote Record, which will enable them to record programs on their personal video recorder via their cell phone.
“Personalising entertainment is the next frontier in television and Foxtel is leading the way,” Patrick Delany, Foxtel executive director of content, product development and delivery, said in a statement. “A mobile phone is no longer just for making and receiving calls, it’s become a multimedia gateway connecting users to the Internet, emails, music, television, TV guides and now Foxtel’s [personal video recorder].”
