By Staff Writer | November 1, 2007

[11-01-07 – Satellite Today] Measat Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd. and Antrix Corp. Ltd. signed an agreement for the lease of Ku-band capacity on the Measat-3 satellite, Measat announced Nov. 1.
Under the agreement, Antrix, the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), will lease eight Ku-band transponders with an option to lease more capacity. The transponders will be used to support the launch and development of a new direct-to-home platform in India.
“Taking into account the increasing demand for transponders in India, ISRO has strived to provide additional capacity both through Insat satellites and through other satellites,” K.R. Sridhara Murthy, executive director, Antrix, said in a statement. “Thirty-six transponders have been added in the last eight months through InSat-4B and Insat-4CR. In order to fill the gap in the demand, ISRO has also been adding transponders to the Insat system by leasing capacity from other regional partners from time to time.”
