[Via Satellite 04-14-2014] NTT Plala, a major Japanese IPTV service provider, has chosen the ViXS XCode 6400 System on Chip (SoC) to power the company’s new Ultra-HD set-top box (STB). Sumitomo Electric Networks developed the STB, which will launch with the ViXS-powered Sumitomo Stream Cruiser Smart-TV ST4100 Series STB.

According to ViXS, the XCode 6400 is the first SoC to support Ultra-HD and High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) Main 10 Profile at 60 frames per second.

“NTT Plala is enabling the transition to Ultra-HD 4K services in Japanese content market, and we need innovative and reliable partners such as ViXS and Sumitomo Electric Networks to help us achieve our ambitious goals,” said Katsumi Nagata, board director and executive director of the technology and engineering division at NTT Plala.
