SUMMARY:"A Day Without Space©- the Aftermath of the Russian ASAT Test and Why Space Traffic Management is a National Security Imperative"
DESCRIPTION:On April 20th\, the CompTIA Space Enterprise Council will be hosting the webinar “A Day Without Space©- the Aftermath of the Russian ASAT Test and Why Space Traffic Management is a National Security Imperative”. Featured speakers include Kevin O’Connell\, Dr. Mir Sadat\, Jim Simpson (Virgin Orbit)\, and Matthew Erickson (SpiderOak Mission Systems) \nBackground:\nThe global space economy currently accounts for $371 billion dollars\, impacting virtually every segment of our lives. Last November\, the Russians conducted a direct-ascent anti-satellite (DA-ASAT) test\, destroying one of its own nonfunctioning satellites and creating a massive debris field. The initial ASAT test represented a crisis for global space sustainability and presented a challenge for the US to provide the global community a blueprint for space traffic management. Debris fields like these and from any future tests could become a catastrophic threat to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) space missions such as the International Space Station\, the massive LEO constellations currently planned\, and other missions. \nOur webinar will examine the dynamics surrounding the test\, the potential economic and national security ramifications if space traffic management is not resolved\, and a potential path forward.

SUMMARY:2022 Space Disposal and Debris Mitigation Conference
DESCRIPTION:A new space age is upon us\, with countries and corporations around the globe moving to collectively add tens of thousands of satellites into Low Earth Orbit. This increasing proliferation of technological constellations has driven a need for more aggressive space traffic management\, which will necessarily include processes for mitigating the threat presented by existing orbital debris as well as managing future endeavors in a way that avoids increasing the debris population. Highly complex processes that enable the disposal of existing orbital debris\, the application of on-orbit services\, and the use of various deorbit methodologies are key to maintaining the scale of investment in satellite deployment projected in the coming decades. \nThe Space Disposal and Debris Mitigation Conference will examine the latest advances in strategies and technological processes involved in orbital space policy. Register now for this virtual summit to address these issues and more. Attendees will come away with a clearer understanding of the potential for protecting and maximizing future endeavors planned for the near-Earth environment.

SUMMARY:Virtual Conference On Satellite Ground Segment In India - Way Forward
DESCRIPTION:Satcom Industry Association (SIA-India) is excited to observe the industry developments as the space\nsegment matures from limited earth observation and communication applications to the multiple\nconstellations that need to be supported with necessary ground infrastructure\, including multiple\ngateways\, data centers and communications links\nThe mention of new space brings up images of Launch vehicles\, satellites and payloads. However\, the\noperation of these satellites relies on communicating with effective ground segments. Specific\nengineering needs accompany the ground station requirement. Still\, like different segments of space\ninfrastructure\, a lot goes beyond technology\, including regulations\, licenses\, etc. Ground Station as a\nService (GSaaS) enables satellite operators to focus on their core business and launch their businesses\nfaster. The multi-tenant feature of GSaaS also amortizes cost components for operators while providing\ncutting edge integrations with security\, data processing etc. Like any other infrastructure as a service\nmodel\, the GSaaS providers also have pre-integrated solutions for these features and functionalities. They have built offerings that allow a smooth run with minimum friction.\nThe National Digital Communications Policy (NDCP 2018) lays due emphasis on strengthening satellite\nCommunication Technologies in India. Much discussion has focused on the space segment\, ranging from\ninvestments and announcements related to business models and technology. In comparison\, the\n“ground” segment in the industry is beginning to ramp up\, and needs to keep pace with discussions\naround industry developments such as NGSO HTS constellations\, software defined radio\, network\nfunction virtualization\, and flat panel antennas\, amongst others. It is only now that the wider Big Data\nindustry recognizes a market gap in the satellite value chain\, one that it is well positioned to address.\nIn recent times\, The Government of India through Department of Space has also come out with quite a\nfew forward-looking policies like the Draft Spacecom Policy\, draft Space transportation policy\, draft\nRemote sensing policy etc. that create an enabling environment for the industry.\nThe Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper on the licensing\nframework for setting up satellite earth station gateways\, and believes multi-stakeholders should be\nallowed to set up such earth stations\, and not merely service licensees\, to attract even bigger investments\ninto the space sector and boost satellite capacities”. While the TRAI Consultation will be addressing the\nregulatory and policy measures for the licensing framework for the satellite gateways\, the need is felt for\na timely discussion on the Ground segment. This conference is aimed at highlighting and deliberating on\nthe issues around the way forward for the Ground Station industry in the Indian Landscape which will not be open to the satellite operation but create an additional boost to the manufacturing of the ground\nsegment and forge foreign collaborations.\nSIA-India is a young and vibrant is a nonprofit association created to provide a platform for thought\nleadership for Policy\, Regulatory and Spectrum matters pertaining to the space and satellite industry.\nBesides national and global industry representation\, there will also be delegates and guests from\nGovernment\, Standard bodies and regulatory bodies in the proposed conference on “Satellite Ground\nSegment in India – Way forward” on 17th December\, 2021 from 1400 to 1830 Hrs (IST). The\nrecommendations that emerge from the deliberations of the conference will be submitted to the\nconcerned authorities.

SUMMARY:U.S.-African Space Cooperation: Unlocking Innovation Across the Continent
DESCRIPTION:On 16 Nov at 1000 EST\, the CompTIA Space Enterprise Council and Space in Africa will co-host “U.S.-African Space Cooperation: Unlocking Innovation Across the Continent” featuring presentations from the Department of State\, Egypt\, Kenya\, South Africa\, and Space Enterprise Council member companies: Atlas Space\, SAIC\, Satellogic\, URSA\, and Virgin Galactic. In this webinar\, we’ll examine current and future challenges and opportunities to US-African space cooperation with a focus on innovation\, space technologies\, services\, and applications. Register at https://connect.comptia.org/events/view/us-african-space-cooperation-unlocking-innovation-across-the-continent \nBackground:\nThe United States and Africa have long been active trade partners\, but until recently\, that relationship only involved limited ties on space cooperation. Now a new generation of Africans is leading the charge to help the continent become an innovative\, globally relevant space power. Both challenges and opportunities now exist\, that if addressed\, will help strengthen the space cooperation ties between the U.S. and Africa. \nAccording to Space in Africa\, African space industry revenue is expected to surpass $10.24 billion by 2024 with by 2024\, with at least 19 African countries having launched at least one satellite into space. Space technologies continue to be instrumental to Africa’s development\, with an increasing number of space application projects being implemented across the continent.
