Background:
The United States and Africa have long been active trade partners, but until recently, that relationship only involved limited ties on space cooperation. Now a new generation of Africans is leading the charge to help the continent become an innovative, globally relevant space power. Both challenges and opportunities now exist, that if addressed, will help strengthen the space cooperation ties between the U.S. and Africa.

According to Space in Africa, African space industry revenue is expected to surpass $10.24 billion by 2024 with by 2024, with at least 19 African countries having launched at least one satellite into space. Space technologies continue to be instrumental to Africa’s development, with an increasing number of space application projects being implemented across the continent.
