How CPI Mitigates 'Memory Effect' in GaN-SSPAs

Memory Effect is a phenomenon that can negatively affect output linear RF power, primarily when GaN BUCs are used in multicarrier applications. As the popularity of GaN-based HPAs has increased, systems integrators and end users have begun to consider these products for multicarrier applications. CPI, a manufacturer of GaAs and GaN BUCs, as well as TWTAs and klystron amplifiers, has identified "memory effect" as a potential challenge in the use of GaN BUCs for multicarrier applications. CPI has mapped this behavior using IMD sweeps and spectral regrowth analysis in order to illustrate the problem, and has mitigated the effect in its own GaN-based products.
