[Via Satellite 11-14-2014] DirecTV has teamed up with Samsung to begin offering 4K content. Beginning today, customers with DirecTV’s Genie HD DVR and a 2014 model Samsung Ultra-High Definition television will have access to new releases, popular films and nature documentaries in 4K.

DirecTV’s 4K offerings begin with 19 movies including the 2009 “Star Trek,” “Transformers: Age of Extinction” and “Forrest Gump.” The films are provided through Paramount Pictures and K2 Communications. The company intends to announce more titles in the near future.

“The picture quality and depth of detail that 4K provides is nothing short of remarkable and we will continue to expand our 4K lineup as consumer demand grows and evolves,” said Romulo Pontual, executive vice president and CTO, DirecTV.
