[Via Satellite 09-12-2014] Korea Telecom (KT) has begun offering one of South Korea’s first 4K Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services to the home. The company selected Broadcom’s encoding and decoding technology to enable 4K delivery at 60 Frames Per Second (FPS) in 10-bit color.

Content is available through Korea Telecom’s Olleh GiGA Ultra-HD service. Broadcom’s 4K System-on-a-Chip (SoC) equipment, which uses High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), has been incorporated in KT’s Set Top Boxes (STBs). Korea Telecom anticipates providing more than 500 program choices by the end of 2014. The first STB’s were launched in South Korea earlier this month.
