[Satellite Today 07-24-09] Modern Times Group (MTG) subsidiary Viasat Broadcasting is struggling to add direct-to-home (DTH) subscribers in the Nordic region, while its IPTV numbers show strong growth, according to MTG’s second quarter results, released July 22.

Viasat closed the quarter with 721,000 DTH subscribers, a fall compared to the end of the first quarter. Viasat’s premium DTH subscribers held steady at 666,000 subscribers. The number of basic DTH subscribers fell from 62,000 at the end of March to 55,000 at the end of June.

Viasat ended the quarter with 112,000 IPTV subscribers, breaking the 100,000 subscriber mark for the first time and more than doubling the 51,000 IPTV subscribers it had in 2008.
