GlobeCast Expands TV Offerings In Europe and Asia

[10-24-07 – Satellite Today] GlobeCast has partnered with BBC Worldwide, Globecast announced Oct. 23.

BBC will use GlobeCast services to expand its Global Channels business to Asia and Poland, distributing four new entertainment channels to India, Hong Kong, Singapore and Poland using the Telstar 10 and Hot Bird satellites. BBC Knowledge, BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyles and CBeebies are already available in Asia, and will launch in Poland in December, using the Cyfrowy Polsat operator.

The channels are adapted into regional formats, offering programming tailored to each audience, including making programs available in the country’s language and English.

In other news, GlobeCast will also be distributing Russia Today in Asia, using full-fiber delivery, the company announced Oct. 24. GlobeCast will pick up Russia Today’s feed at its London technical operations center and deliver the channel over its newly upgraded fiber network to its teleport in Singapore. From there, Pacific Century Matrix sends the signal via fiber to Hong Kong for uplink to its platform on the AsiaSat 3S satellite.

Russia Today presents the Russian perspective on news events in Russia and around the world. The channel reaches more than 100 million pay TV viewers in Europe, North America and South Africa. The channel is also available on the Internet.
