Newtech, SES Astra To Test New Content Delivery Method

By Staff Writer | September 4, 2007

Newtech and SES Astra signed a cooperation agreement to test and demonstrate a new way to deliver television content, the company said Sept. 4.

The managed satellite distribution system will deliver several mobile TV channels from Betzdorf, Luxembourg, to remote and unmanned terrestrial transmission sites beginning this fall.

The system will be operated on SES Astra’s satellite broadband access system, Astra2Connect. Each remote site will be equipped with an interactive Sat3Play terminal by Newtech, allowing the remote management and control of the equipment of the transmission sites. The transceivers will receive the TV content from the satellite and then rebroadcast the content to customers. For demonstration purposes, one of the remote sites will be a mobile unit.
