      Gilat Wins Israeli Military Deal

      The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has selected Gilat Satellite Networks’ SatTrooper-1000 military Manpack terminal for advanced tactical field communications. The SatTrooper-1000 will provide Israeli soldiers with high-broadband speeds data, video and telephony services.

      The terminal is intended to be quickly set up by a single warfighter and its auto-pointing antenna enables rapid connectivity even in harsh environmental conditions.

      Hermes Datacomms Boosts Position in Iraq

      Hermes Datacomms Middle East has been approved as a CommScope partner in Iraq. This means Hermes Datacomms’ local Iraqi/expat engineers and expat project managers in Iraq are now qualified by CommScope to design, install and maintain CommScope solutions.

      Hermes Datacomms has been operating within the Middle East for more than 10 years. In April 2008, the Hermes Dubai office was established to answer the growing demand within the region. As part of the expansion, the partnership allows Hermes Datacomms customers in Iraq to now access the benefits of the CommScope PartnerPro Network.

      Rawafed Libya Selects Eutelsat to Support Wireless Broadband Network

      Eutelsat Communications has signed a multi-year agreement with Rawafed Libya, an Internet service provider in Libya, for capacity on the Ka-sat satellite to support IP trunking services to its new wireless broadband network in Libya.

      Under the agreement, Eutelsat will enable Rawafed Libya to use up to 1.6 Gbps of capacity on two Ka-Sat spotbeams that provide premium reach of Tripoli, Benghazi and surrounding regions. Rawafed Libya’s use of Ka-Sat will accelerate access to wireless broadband for public agencies, enterprises and consumers in the more densely populated areas of Libya.

      BringCom Wins New Contract in Africa

      BringCom has announced it has been awarded a new multi-year contract by an international carrier for a U.S. Government circuit. Under the contract, valued at $7.324 million, BringCom will provide fiber optic circuit services to U.S. Government agencies operating in Africa using the company’s facilities in Djibouti City, Republic of Djibouti and its Network Operating Center (NOC) in Sterling, Va.

      Thuraya Creates New Mobile Satellite Division

      Thuraya Telecommunications has launched a new mobile satellite division focused on spearheading strategic initiatives for the development and implementation of innovation in products, services, and business models. The new division comes in the wake of the launch of the company’s SatSleeve for the iPhone.

      Thuraya has recently undergone a major transformation, which included an expansion of its product portfolio, an optimization of its network infrastructure, as well as the revitalization and expansion of its distribution network in key markets.
