Kudelski Sells Abilis Business to Taiwanese STB Developer

Taiwanese digital set-top box (STB) developer ALi Corp. has entered into an agreement with content protection and value-added service technology company Kudelski Group to acquire its Abilis Systems Sàrl subsidiary.

Abilis is a fabless semiconductor company that provides RF modulators, secure media processors and broadcast-to-IP solutions from its headquarters based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mitsubishi Electric Satellite Product Receives Type Approvals After GVF Testing

Mitsubishi Electric’s new maritime broadband satellite communications product has been awarded Type Approvals after extensive testing by satellite industry non-profit Global VSAT Forum (GVF), Mitsubishi announced Oct. 19. The GVF Product Quality Assurance Framework, established by the international satellite industry to improve earth station technology design and performance, provided the Type Approvals to Mitsubishi.

Technicolor, Astro Extend Set-Top Box Contract

Technicolor has extended its contract with Malaysian cross-media group Astro to continue its production of MediaPlay High-Definition (HD) MPEG-4 set-top boxes for Astro.

Technicolor’s set-top boxes are committed to an ecodesign and are designed to offer the ability to record numerous external disks for subscribers to tailor their own recording capability.
