Thuraya, CNN Offer SMS Info Service

CNN entered into a strategic alliance with Thuraya to provide mobile satellite customers access to breaking news in English and Arabic, Thuraya announced.
CNN will use mobile satellite technology to bring SMS news alerts to Thuraya customers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Central and South Asia that are beyond the reach of standard mobile coverage. Customers will be able to tailor the service to their preferences by signing up for optional extras. A banner on the CNN Web site will direct users to a dedicated site from where they can sign up to the service.
The partnership is expected to extend CNN’s mobile reach by an additional 250,000 subscribers, which will be expanded following Thuraya’s launch in the Asia-Pacific region in early 2008.
