[8/22/07 – Satellite Today] Belgacom, the Belgian telco, is exiting the satellite market, the company announced Aug. 22.

The company said it had reached an agreement to transfer its satellite activities to Indian group ORG Informatics. The transfer should be completed by fall. Belgacom said the decision was made after a study showed that it was preferable to transfer this activity to a third party for both financial and strategic reasons.

Belgacom employs around 34 people in this area, and the buildings linked to the satellite activities are also included in the transaction.
