Polsat Claims HD Industry First In Poland

      Direct-to-home operator Cyfrowy Polsat has acquired broadcast trucks that can broadcast in high definition, the company announced July 30.

      Polsat, claims to be the first TV provider in Poland to own the technology, and the trucks will figure prominently in the operator’s plans to launch an HD sports channel, Polsat Sport HD, in October and four thematic HD channels in the following six months.

      The first truck, developed by Sony, will be used to produce coverage of the Men’s Volleyball Word League Championship beginning July 11 in Katowice. A second truck will be delivered to Polsat by the end of October, and the third unit is scheduled to start transmitting in January.
