Premiere Hopes To Bounce Back After Revenue Fall

By JJ McCoy | July 20, 2007

German pay-TV operator Premiere reported revenues of 229.1 million euros ($316.1 million) down nearly 15 percent compared to the previous quarter, the company announced July 19.

Premiere blamed the decrease to the loss of the Bundesliga soccer rights in Germany, but the operator believes it can look forward to regaining revenues and subscriber numbers since the Bundesliga issue appears to have been resolved.

Premiere also announced that its deal with cable rival Unitymedia regarding soccer content is back on track after the German Cartel Office approved a sublicensing deal between the two parties.
Premiere closed June with 3.5 million subscribers, up nearly 12,000 for the quarter. Throughout the last 12 months, Premiere’s subscribers have increased by more than 30,000.
