Astrium To Build Amazonas-2 For Hispasat

Astrium has been contracted by Hispasat to design and build Amazonas-2, a powerful geostationary satellite to increase Hispasat’s offered capacity and meet demand on its American position, Astrium announced June 6.

Equipped with a payload of 54 Ku-band and 10 C-band transponders, Amazonas-2 will be launched in 2009 to provide a full range of telecommunications services to North and South America from its 61° West orbital position.

Amazonas-2 will be built on a Eurostar E3000 platform, with a design life of 15 years.
