A Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile failed and self-destructed shortly after launch from the Dmitry Donskoy submarine, the second test failure for the missile, the Russian navy reported.

The new type of missile would compete with the U.S. Navy Trident program.

While the missile was supposed to fly from the White Sea to the Kamchatka Peninsula, it veered off course and self-destructed, falling into the sea, according to media reports.
