The Satellite Users Interference Reduction Group named new officers and directors for 2004-05, selecting R. James Budden, vice president of operations at New Skies Satellites NV, as chairman. Key priorities identified by the group for 2004-05 include satellite operator training and certification, working with equipment vendors to incorporate a carrier identification capability within transmit equipment, capturing and tracking global interference incidents on its Web site for analysis, providing tools and serving as a central location for identifying and mitigating interference, and analyzing the financial and manpower impact of interference on satellite customers.

The anti-interference group just marked its first anniversary since its incorporation. According to President and CEO Bob Ames, “From five founding members one year ago, SUIRG membership has grown to 24 member organizations, including all major satellite operators. Our business plan calls for a continuing membership increase of between five and 10 members per year.”
