Telkom South Africa Streamlines Network Operations

By Staff Writer | September 21, 2004

South Africa’s Telkom SA Limited chose Atlanta-based ILC‘s network-control software to monitor and control satellite earth stations. The new satellite Network Element Management System (NEMS) is intended to add momentum to Telkom’s goal of centrally managing its satellite voice, video, data, Internet and e-commerce services from its National Network Operations Centre (NNOC) in Centurion, Gauteng.

The ILC MaxView Satellite NEMS network control software will help to manage Telkom’s seven satellite uplink/downlink facilities located throughout South Africa. Each facility hosts multiple satellite antennae ranging in size from 4.6 meters to 32 meters; the facilities also include thousands of network elements from various manufacturers.
