By Staff Writer | September 2, 2004

Pace Micro Technology made a key management appointment as it prepares to become a major player in the Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and High-Definition (HD) space. David Gillies is the company’s new director of technology, and he will help shape Pace’s strategy in these areas. Pace is a global provider of set-top boxes (STBs).

Gillies, who has more than 20 years of experience in the digital-television sector, said he is confident that HD soon can make an impact in Europe. “The time is right for high definition in Europe. Advanced video codecs, combined with improved content delivery and display technologies, are now enabling cost-effective HD services that will provide consumer pull,” he said. “Continuing advances in IP and broadband delivery are also providing a range of service alternatives for digital TV operators.”
