Telikom Papua New Guinea Plans Massive Rural Network

By Staff Writer | June 16, 2004

Telikom Papua New Guinea tapped Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. [GILTF] to provide a hub and 500 DialAw@y IP VSATs for rural telephony services across the island country. The network can expand to 2,000 sites, though no timetable was given for such a rollout. Gilat said DialAw@y IP provides high-speed Internet connectivity and toll-quality telephony service on a single platform. Each unit supports a PC/LAN connection and as many as six telephone channels. The networks are rapidly deployable, and scalable and field-upgradeable. Financial terms were not disclosed.
