Consortia Short-Listed For Galileo Concession

      A number of consortia have been short-listed for the Galileo satellite navigation system concession. One consortium is led by Alcatel [NYSE: ALA] and includes Finmeccanica and VICNI Concessions. Another consortium is made up of Inmarsat, EADS Space Services and the Thales Group. The Galileo Joint Undertaking, set up by the European Union and European Space Agency to oversee the development phase of the Galileo program, expects to award the Galileo concession early in 2005. The winner will take on responsibility for the financing, deployment and operations phases of the Galileo system.
