Sutron Receives Certification for Satellite Transmitter

Sterling, Va.-based Sutron Corp. [OTC BB: STRN] has received certification from the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) for its satellite high data rate DCP transmitter – Satlink SL2 G312-1. Satlink functions with all geostationary satellites, enabling collection of real-time data from virtually anywhere on Earth.

NESDIS has mandated that transmitters in all U.S. data collection platforms currently in operation – approximately 20,000 now running at 100 bps – must be replaced by 300 bps satellite transmitters over the next eight years. The cost of replacing these units is estimated to be approximately $45 million.

The Satlink SL2 G312-1 transmitter will allow Sutron to capture a major share of this replacement market over the next several years, the company said.
