Intelsat Restores Internet Service to Turkey

By Staff Writer | January 15, 2004

When a major undersea cable recently failed, Intelsat was able to restore Internet services to all of Turkey within 38 hours, the company said. The high-speed connection to the Internet backbone was provided to Turk Telecom through two 155 Mbps links over an Intelsat satellite using its Maryland teleport.

Intelsat procured modems and termination equipment from New York and installed them in its Maryland teleport, a part of its worldwide GlobalConnex solutions infrastructure. Intelsat and engineers from Turk Telecom in Ankara worked closely together to establish the communications links and to ensure the quality level of the transmission signal from Turkey.
