Intelsat Becomes Subcontractor In Iraq Reconstruction

By Staff Writer | December 2, 2003

Intelsat Government Solutions has been awarded a subcontract to provide a turnkey satellite communications system to support Bechtel National Inc.’s effort in coordinating the U.S. infrastructure reconstruction program in Iraq.

An Intelsat satellite, combined with a newly operational teleport, will provide network connectivity between Bechtel’s Iraqi reconstruction office in Baghdad and a termination point in the United States. Intelsat Government Solutions also is working with a subcontractor, DataPath, a company that designs, integrates, installs and tests satellite- based systems to implement turnkey systems.

Bechtel originally was awarded a contract by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in April 2003 to support the Coalition Provisional Authority’s reconstruction program.
