Marlink adds Telenor’s E-mail to Portfolio

By Staff Writer | October 14, 2003

Marlink will add Telenor‘s new E-mail Advanced service to its portfolio of e-mail, value-added services designed for communicating from remote land locations or at sea. The new service can cut costs up to 80 percent by reducing the time needed to send messages. The new e-mail service would operate with most Inmarsat maritime and land mobile technologies including Inmarsat A, B, M, Mini-M, GAN and Fleet Services. The software reduces expensive modem dialing and authentication procedures to a minimum, company officials said. The service features full duplex capability for sending and receiving e-mail simultaneously and high compression algorithms. For Marlink customers, there is no sign-up fee or service charge other than for standard airtime minutes.
